This is a Hybrid role, offering you the flexibility to work from our Dundee, Glasgow, or Edinburgh hubs. We champion a supportive environment and provide a home office setup budget to ensure you are comfortable and productive wherever you choose to work.

As our Head of Engineering, you will be a visionary leader shaping the technical standards and strategies that define Waracle. You will lead and nurture a multidisciplinary team of experts across mobile, frontend, backend, cloud, and data solutions. This role is perfect for a collaborative leader who enjoys articulating enterprise-grade architecture and has a heart for mentoring talent to reach their full potential.

Key Aspects of the Role

Reporting to the Director of Engineering and Data, your journey will involve:

  • Community & Practice Leadership: Developing a “Community of Practice” strategy that fosters a culture of technical excellence, knowledge-sharing, and belonging.
  • Mentorship: Coaching team members to ensure continuous skill development, helping every individual grow their career within Waracle.
  • Technical Strategy: Leading the direction for robust, scalable architectures and advocating for high-quality solutions across the entire technology stack.
  • Strategic Advising: Acting as a trusted partner to our clients (up to CTO level), helping them navigate their digital roadmaps and achieve their organisational dreams.
  • Collaborative Growth: Supporting pre-sales by translating client needs into a clear technical vision and managing resources to ensure project success.

What you'll bring

  • Engineering Expertise: A strong background in software engineering with experience leading multiple technology teams.
  • Architectural Insight: A deep understanding of design patterns and the ability to make thoughtful trade-offs between different technology stacks.
  • Modern Delivery Knowledge: Experience with the full software development lifecycle, including cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure) and AI-assisted coding tools.
  • Empathetic Leadership: A proven track record of mentoring technical teams and fostering an inclusive culture of continuous learning.
  • Communication Skills: The ability to build strong relationships and present complex ideas confidently to executive-level stakeholders.

Recruitment process

The recruitment process you can expect for this role is an initial call with your dedicated Talent Atrraction Partner who will chat with you about Waracle, what you are looking for in a new position, the salary for the role, notice period and benefits (the important stuff!).

After that, you’ll be invited to a two-stage interview process where you have an opportunity to find out more about the role and showcase your skills and experience. Your Talent Attraction Partner will guide you through the whole process to your first day with us.
