Waracle is looking for a Senior QA Engineer to join us on a permanent basis. 


This is a hybrid role working from any of our offices in the UK (Dundee, Glasgow, Edinburgh or London)

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior QA Engineer with expertise in both manual and automation testing to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of testing best practices and standards, along with the ability to coach and mentor others in the field. This role involves developing and executing test strategies, enhancing test automation frameworks, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure the highest quality in our products.


As a Senior QA Engineer your duties will include:

Testing Practices & Standards:

  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of best practices and standards in primary testing platforms, with a thorough understanding of other platforms.
  • Coach team members in best practices, ensuring adherence to testing standards and methodologies.

Functional & Non-Functional Testing:

  • Exhibit expertise in functional testing methods and non-functional testing techniques, with a basic understanding of security testing.
  • Specialise in specific testing areas and coach others in these domains.

Test Strategy Development:

  • Contribute to or create comprehensive test strategies and approaches, ensuring thorough coverage through detailed test plans.
  • Review and maintain test plans, coaching others in test plan and script creation.

Automation & Code Quality:

  • Utilise knowledge of programming and design paradigms to perform white box testing and develop automation frameworks.
  • Refactor existing code for efficiency and reusability, avoiding redundancy and biasing toward self-documenting code.

Agile Methodologies:

  • Exhibit comprehensive knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile principles, with the ability to mentor peers in QA-specific practices across methodologies.
  • Suggest and integrate tools that enhance testing efficiency and reporting within the project.

Defect Management:

  • Review reported defects for conformance to high standards and actively participate in triage sessions.
  • Ensure traceability standards are met and maintained throughout the testing process.

Task Estimation & Prioritisation:

  • Assess sized tasks to ensure appropriate estimation and sizing.
  • Proactively identify potential blockers and delays, ensuring dependencies are documented and communicated.

Collaboration & Mentorship:

  • Foster collaboration across multidisciplinary teams to enhance testing practices and broaden understanding of capabilities.
  • Set objectives for self and team members, providing feedback and coaching to promote growth and improvement in established processes.

Requirements

  • Proficient in automation tools and frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress). Experience with BDD frameworks (e.g., Cucumber) is a plus.
  • Comprehensive understanding of functional and non-functional testing, including performance and regression testing.
  • Strong knowledge of SDLC, Agile methodologies, and CI/CD practices using tools like Jenkins or GitLab CI.
  • Proficient in at least one programming language (e.g., Java, Python, JavaScript) for automation scripting.
  • Ability to create test strategies and plans, ensuring comprehensive test coverage based on specifications.
  • Experience with defect tracking tools (e.g., JIRA) and leading triage meetings.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities to identify risks and propose effective solutions.
  • Experience communicating with clients and stakeholders regarding testing progress and findings.
  • Familiarity with industry-specific QA practices, particularly in finance, healthcare, or technology.
