Who’s on Board? Waracle Pass Go and Collect Monopoly Square

17th October 2012

Waracle have been chosen to feature on Dundee’s Monopoly board, representing South Tay Street and the cities burgeoning tech-scene. The coup comes in light of a fantastic year for the company having consolidated their reputation as Scotland’s leading app developer and successfully moving into new lines of business such as games and Smart TV app development.

Waracle, run by Mike Wharton and brothers David and Michael Romilly, work with some of Dundee’s finest clients including Dundee United FC, Fat Sams nightclub and the Dundee Heritage Trust. Our experience across web technology, iOS and Android development have led to some truly exciting commissions in recent years and everyone at the company is over the moon to receive such recognition. Their recent move into games development is coupled with their first commission to develop apps for Smart TVs, a platform that Waracle is proud to be leading the way with.

So how did this amazing event come to fruition? Having beaten cities from across the UK to be selected for a Monopoly board, Winning Moves, the company responsible for recruiting Dundee’s representatives, spotted Waracle’s advertising hoarding at Tannadice whilst watching Sky Sports News and decided to make the approach. The team were delighted and flattered in equal measures given the wealth of talent residing on the banks of the Tay. The city is evolving quickly and with the V&A shaping Dundee’s future as a cultural and technological hub, Waracle are immensely proud to be part of city with such amazing heritage and such a bright outlook for the future.

Waracle started in 2004 and after a brief foray into back-end gaming/gambling technology started developing websites for local companies. The company evolved by being at the cutting edge of innovation, and in 2008 developed the worldwide hit for iOS, Love Food Hate Waste (LFHW). Their work for the Scottish Government on the LFHW project signified a new direction for the company, and with the wind in their sales they set off creating an impressive track record developing iOS and Android apps for household brands such as Virgin, Sony, and G1. In addition, Waracle is now the largest supplier of mobile technology to Scotland’s public sector having successfully delivered app development projects for NHS Scotland, The Scottish Football Association and Public Contracts Scotland. The company now boast a team of 15 across mobile, web, games and Smart TV app development and are looking forward to sharing their expertise with their client-base to help them develop new revenue streams.

David Romilly, Business Development Director at Waracle, had this to say:

“We’re all local to Dundee and have a genuine passion for technology. We love developing cutting edge tech that makes a real difference to our clients and in turn helps raise the profile of the city. From an early age we’ve seen the city develop into something really special and it’s fantastic that Dundee’s achievements have been recognised with its very own Monopoly board. It’s ironic that as children, Michael and I used to fall out over heated games of Monopoly at our Gran’s caravan in the Lake District. It’s now a bit surreal having our very own square on the board – Gran would be proud!”
