With not long to go until Turing Fest – the biggest gathering of tech and marketing tribes, we’ve taken a look at the schedule to select our tracks before heading to the EICC in Edinburgh for Turing Fest 2018.
With sessions covering Product, Engineering, Strategy, Growth, Marketing and Culture, there really is something for everyone. This Turing Fest session grabbed our interest with the mention of intelligent personal assistants! With bots and artificial intelligence (AI) becoming more mainstream and consumers adopting emerging technology, it’ll be interesting to hear how Jono Alderson (Mad Scientist, Yoast) explores how to be ready for digital marketing in a post-digital world.
Afterall, as Jono says in his session description, everything that you know about marketing and advertising is based on yesterday’s rules. For brands to survive the revolution, they will need to change how they think, and to start preparing now. This is something we’re more than well aware of at Waracle. Overall, when it comes to technological innovation, there is significant scope at present for many emerging technologies such as augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), Blockchain and AI and machine learning to impact cost reduction and process efficiency. This is something our partners at Mozenix are seeing across many sectors as they implement AR into digital solutions.
Regardless of emerging technology, generating leads – which convert into business – is something which marketers will always be tasked with. So this session caught our eye – especially as it mentioned optimising. One of our favourite things at Waracle is to optimise all our processes! Meagen Eisenberg (CMO, MongoDB) says in her Turing Fest session description, that despite all the fancy new tools marketers have at their disposal, there is still never one clear-cut answer. We’re looking forward to Meagen sharing her sales playbook for optimising the funnel.

As long-term users of Moz, we’re looking forward to hearing Rand Fishkin (founder, SparkToro/Moz) and his keynote session on marketing launches. In his sobering session topic, he claims 9 out of 10 marketing launches fail.
There’s no doubt that the process behind a marketing launch is important. When it comes to launching mobile apps, and app store optimisation, we’re keen advocates of skyrocketing successes of new mobile apps. We’re hoping this Turing Fest session gives us even more to add to our successful mobile marketing strategies for clients’ new apps.
We first heard Oli Gardner (co-founder, Unbounce) speak in 2016 and he was one of the most entertaining presenters with his topic on data-informed design . If you weren’t at the 2016 #turingfest you can catch up on what you missed in Waracle’s 6 key takeaways!
Oli’s 2018 topic on Marketing Optimisation Maps (M.O.M.) sounds intriguing. We look forward to hearing his approach to optimised content marketing.
Our mobile app marketers like to keep on top of how Google is indexing so we’ll definitely be attending this session by Cindy Krum (CEO, MobileMoxie) . With more and more searches being done on mobile, we look forward to hearing what Cindy says about cross device compatibility, multimodal UI and wearables.
As Cindy states in her session description – Google is now relying much more heavily on complex speech, language and translation APIs, as well as individual personalisation and machine learning to generate results. Where Google used to be able to index and surface web pages, now they can show results for concepts, ideas and media without websites, or tell you about these things using voice.
We can’t wait to hear Cindy talk at Turing Fest about how all these technologies come together, especially the voice technology given Waracle is a listed skills developer for Amazon Alexa!
We first heard Samantha Noble (founder, Biddable Moments) speak at 2016 #turingfest when she reminded us that competitors cannot replicate your audience and that your audience is your unique marketing point. This year, Sam is talking about Paid Media which is an ever-changing landscape. We’re looking forward to hearing all the latest features and updates about paid media campaigns.
What can we say, we saw the word AI and we instantly knew we’d be at this session from Jes Scholz (International Digital Director, Ringier)!
As Jes says in his Turing Fest session description, so many companies have turned to automation or algorithms and call it “AI”. Yet, as Jes says, smart companies are taking this a step further. They are leveraging full power of machine learning, computer vision and natural language processing to better connect with users and drive marketing KPIs. We can’t wait for this session to hear the buzz around Artificial Intelligence marketing.
In fact, Artificial intelligence has been identified as a disruptive industrial digital technology (IDT) alongside blockchain in the recent UK Government Made Smarter Review . Our partners at Wallet.Services wrote more about this in their blog Blockchain: the backbone of Industry 4.0.
